(NHL)  The Toronto Maple Leafs moved back into second place in the Atlantic division after beating the Buffalo Sabres 4-2 last night. The Leafs’ Auston Matthews scored his 39th goal of the season in the victory. In other action Detroit needed the shootout for a 5-4 win over the Ottawa Senators and Montreal skated to a 4-1 win over Florida. Off the ice the NHL announced yesterday that they would not be participating in the 2018 Olympics in South Korea.

(MLB)  Blue Jays reliever Jason Grilli gave up the winning home run in the 11th inning as Toronto dropped their season opener 3-2 to the Baltimore Orioles yesterday.  Toronto right-hander Marco Estrada allowed two runs over six innings and retired his last 10 batters.

(Curling)  Canada’s Brad Gushue remains perfect at 5-0 after eight draws of round-robin play. Canada dumped Scotland 8-2 yesterday afternoon and then beat the U.S. by the same score in the evening.
