The Toronto Maple Leafs skated to a 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers last night. Toronto remains a point back of the Islanders who beat Vancouver 4-3 in overtime, In other action Brian Elliott made 24 saves for the shutout as the Calgary Flames blanked the Montreal Canadiens 5-0, it’s Calgary’s 8th straight win and  Ottawa needed overtime for a 3-2 win over Arizona.

Jose Bautista homered and drove in four runs, as the Dominican Republic pounded Canada 9-2 yesterday in the opening game of the World Baseball Classic. Canada’s next game is Saturday against Colombia.

Curling

Brad Gushue won twice yesterday to give Newfoundland and Labrador a spot in the Page playoff 1-2 game.  Gushue moved into a first place tie with Manitoba at 8 and 2 while Northern Ontario is in second with an 8 and 3 record while Quebec and Team Canada are tied in fourth at 7 and 3. Several scenarios are still in play and seedings are still up in the air for all four playoff spots.
