(NHL)  The Toronto Maple Leafs jumped out to a 3-0 lead then hung on to beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 last night at the ACC. In other action the Montreal Canadiens used overtime for a 2-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks, it’s Montreal’s sixth straight victory. And the New York Islanders thumped Edmonton 4-1.

(MLB)  Canada’s World Baseball Classic team thumped the Toronto Blue Jays 7-1 in an exhibition game yesterday. Canada’s Dalton Pompey had two hits, scored a run and made a great defensive catch against his major-league team.

(NBA)  Only 3 games in the NBA last night. Washington beat Phoenix 131-127, Dallas got past the Lakers 122-111 and Portland ran to a 126-121 win over Oklahoma City.

(Curling)  John Morris and his British Columbia rink handed Mike McEwen and his Manitoba crew their first loss of the Tim Hortons Brier yesterday. Manitoba still sits atop the standings at 5-1 while BC improved to 4-3 to move into a tie for third. Glenn Howard of Ontario continues to struggle sitting at 1-5
