Sidney Crosby notched his 1,000th point and scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the Penguins beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-3 last night. In other action Ottawa shut out New Jersey 3-0, St Louis edged Vancouver 4-3, and Edmonton skated to a 6-3 win over Philadelphia.
The Toronto Blue Jays signed  29-year-old right-hander pitcher Matt Latos to a minor-league deal yesterday with an invitation to major-league camp. Latos is an eight-year veteran with 186 career starts but has struggled over the last two seasons while dealing with a knee injury.
Only two games in the NBA last night, Chicago edged Boston 104-103 and Washington beat Indiana 111-98.
