Last night in the NHL, Alex Ovechkin became the 84th player in NHL history to hit register 1,000-points, Ovechkin scored twice as the Caps beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2. Elsewhere Montreal skated to a 7-4 win over Winnipeg, Calgary edged San Jose 3-2 and Florida beat the Islanders 2-1.
Some NFL notes, the Buffalo Bills announced Carolina Panthers defensive co-ordinator Sean McDermott as their new head coach replacing Rex Ryan and the San Diego Charges are expected to announce today that they are moving to Los Angelas.
On the hardcourt last night the Portland Trailblazers thumped the Cleveland Cavaliers 102-86, Boston beat Washington 117-108 and Philadelphia edged the Knicks 98-97.
