Cochrane Mayor Peter Politis says the 2017 municipal budget has been approved, in principle, at 3%. Politis says his administration has gone out of their way to keep pace with cost-of-living augmentations while cutting the overall town budget by about 1 million dollars over the past six years. He says this year’s 3% increase is roughly half that being proffered by other local communities. The Mayor went on to say bi-weekly garbage pickup was dropped after it became clear that it would represent an insignificant dollar savings, and was causing substantial hardships for local families who produce large quantities of waste.
