The multimodal transportation project in Cochrane has the potential to impact not only the community itself but the entire region. Mayor Peter Politis says the extension onto the current track service will provide the opportunity to transport freights from the south where everything would be produced and shipped East and West from there. Politis says this project has already created several jobs in the area. Â Politis says rail service is important here in Northern Ontario not only for transporting goods, but also moving people. He says in our region we have almost 90 percent of the provincial land mass and only about six percent of the population.
