SAVING THE ALGOMA PASSENGER TRAIN

Supporters of the Algoma Passenger Train are trying to get the government to back the important piece of infrastructure in the North. Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes says the Conservative government initially decided to remove the remote subsidy for the rail service, but after realizing the mistake they promised to invest upwards of $5-million dollars over three years to get the line back up and running. Hughes says the train connecting Sault Ste. Marie and Hearst provides a significant boost to the Economy in Northern Ontario.   Hughes says now what we’re seeing is the liberal government wiping their hands from the funding and pushing the issue over to the Minister of Indigenous affairs.
