The Cochrane Crunch started their 2016-2017 season with back to back wins. The Crunch won their home opener Friday night with a 4-2 win over the Iroquois Falls Eskies 4-2. And then spoiled the Eskies home opener on Saturday night with a an 8-5 win lead by the 3 goal performance of 20 year old, Alberta native, Konner Dechaine. Next up for the Crunch is this Friday evening vs the Rayside Balfour Canadiens at the Event Centre at 7:30.

The Boston Red Sox have a two game lead atop the American League East as they beat the Blue Jays 11-8 yesterday to take 2 of 3 games of their weekend series.  Toronto has lost seven of the last 10 games.

The Toronto Argonauts beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 33-21 last night to snap a four-game losing streak. Argos QB Dan LeFevour, completed 27-of-36 passes for 329 yards and a TD with two interceptions in replacing veteran Ricky Ray who was injured Monday.

The first Sunday of the NFL season saw the Buffalo Bills lose to the Baltimore Ravens 13-7, elsewhere  Detroit surprised Indianapolis 39-35 the Giants edged Dallas 20-19 and in the late game New England beat Arizona 23-21

Stan Wawrinka has won the U.S. Open championship.  The Swiss native defeated top-ranked Novak Djokovic  for his third major title.
