DEADLIEST LABOR DAY WEEKEND IN TWENTY YEARS

Distracted driving was at the forefront of the OPP’s traffic campaign over the long weekend. Close to 800 charges were laid against distracted drivers over this past weekend. Police reported 12 road related deaths, one boat and one off-road vehicle fatality this Labour Day weekend making it the deadliest one in 20 years. Staff Sergeant Baldassare Nuccio with the James Bay Detachment says motorists need to be completely stopped and off the road if they plan on using any devices.  Nuccio says over the long weekend there were no fatalities or collisions reported in the James Bay area in regards to distracted driving.
