SEAT BELT BLITZ

In recent years the OPP has noticed that men are less likely to wear seatbelts than women are. Over the past five years a total of 332 people have died in collisions as a result of not wearing a seat belt. Of that number 261 victims were male and only 71 female. Seat belt related deaths among children under 16 remains the lowest of all other age groups. Inspector Michael Pilon with the James Bay Detachment says not wearing your seatbelt even while travelling at slow speeds could have dangerous consequences.  It’s important for parents to ensure that children are always safely buckled in a car seat appropriate to their age and size. The OPP is reminding drivers to be safe and buckle up.
