PHONE FRAUD ALERT

OPP are advising the public to be cautious of service scams. Last year almost 200 victims were targeted that totaled losses of about 150 thousand dollars. 95 percent of the crimes go unreported and last year the Canadian Anti-Fraud Department received over 400 complaints. Scammers will typically ask for personal information such as Social Insurance Numbers, date of birth, mother’s maiden name or any credit card information. If you know someone who has been a victim of a service scam contact local authorities or file a complaint directly to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
