Northern politicians are supporting a citizen’s coalition to combat high energy costs. Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson says the high energy prices affect everyone. Bisson says the power these coalitions have over government is entirely dependent on the local support of events like town hall meetings. He says if there is enough pressure on the government it will reverse some of its policies, much like the opposition to both the increased drug costs for seniors and the proposed municipal land tax. Bisson and other northern MPPs are calling for a meeting with Ontario’s new Energy Minister, Glenn Thibeault to discuss the rising costs of gas and hydro further.
