GUARDING AGAINST THEFT

With the unusual streak of cold and wet weather over the last two weeks cottage goers may only be opening now and the OPP has some tips to keep your property safe.  Police say often thieves are looking for big-ticket items like generators, chainsaws, power tools or electronics.  Taking those items off the property when you leave or storing them in a separate, secure area can help to reduce the risk of theft.  The OPP says, in particular, it has trouble tracking down thefts from more remote cottages, especially if thefts are carried out using boats.  If, when you go to open your cottage this season, you find you’ve been a victim of theft to call police immediately and are asked not to touch anything.
