The MP for Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing says It’s time to recognize the contribution of Canadians during the Cold War. Carol Hughes says from 1946 to 1989 we learned how fragile peace times can be and many Canadians played a key role in keeping that peace. Hughes wants to create a Defense of Canada Medal, an idea that was suggested by one of her constituents in Elliot Lake. In addition to recognizing military people, the medal would also be awarded to police members, emergency measures and civilian organizations.
