NewsEVACUATIONS UNDERWAY SHARE ON: Tim Rout, staff Monday, May. 2nd, 2016Hundreds of evacuees are now in Kapuskasing and other host communities from the remote First Nation community of Kashechewan. Evacuation Coordinator Gerry Demeules says 308 evacuees will be staying in Thunder Bay. Demeules say regular flights will be coming to and from Kashechewan to other host communities as the Albany River begins to break up in the thaw. All stage one evacuees are now safely out of the community, that classification refers to anyone with young children, the elderly or those with health issues. Other communities such as Fort Albany, Moose Factory and Moosonee are also at risk this time of year.
