HEPATITIS ‘A’ – FURTHER DETAILS

The Sudbury and District Health Unit says some people have sampled frozen berries that are behind a Hepatitis A outbreak.  The berries were sold at Costco stores and samples were given out March 22nd and 23rd.  Even though the closest Costco location is in Sudbury, it does ship to members across the Northeast, including those in the Cochrane district.  Hepatitis A can cause liver damage and although 10 people have come developed the virus in Ontario, none are believed to be in our region.  However the health unit says people should watch for symptoms like fever, vomiting and loss of appetite and recommends getting vaccinated.  The berries were sold under the brand name Nature’s Touch Organic Berry Cherry Blend and the product has been recalled.
