Attawapiskat has declared a state of emergency following recent suicide attempts within its community. Timmins-James Bay MP has been speaking out on the crisis, taking to social media over the weekend and bringing up the subject at the NDP’s convention in Edmonton. Angus says the government never responded to the call from the Mushkegowuk Cree to launch an inquiry into the suicide crisis in the James Bay region. Over the weekend youth from Attawapiskat, Kashechewan, Moose Factory and Fort Albany gathered to raise awareness on the crisis in the James Bay region.
