FIRE SAFETY IN COCHRANE AND IROQUOIS FALLS

The MNR is being pro-active in educating residents on how to reduce the chance forest fires.  The MNR says April to October marks the fire season for the province which on average has over 1,000 wildfires burning each year.  Half of those fires are caused by people.  The province is reminding residents to take all necessary steps to tend to an open fire safely, keep it under control and making sure the fire is completely out before leaving it.  Residents should always store all firewood at least 10 meters away from a fire.
