Rain helps fight against Timmins 9

The rain overnight Tuesday — about 18 mm of it – helped reduce the fire hazard in the woods of Northeastern Ontario, including the area around Gogama and Timmins.

Timmins 9 – the fire that has already burned more than 31-hundred hectares –isn’t growing, but is  still not considered under control. It’s north of Gogama and west of Hwy. 144.

Fire information officer Isabelle Chenard says the rain has made some of the terrain difficult for fire rangers, who are now establishing and consolidating hose lines.

The flames were first detected a week ago this past Sunday.
