It’s a partial roof collapse over the weekend that forced the closure of Aileen Wright English Catholic School in Cochrane. Again, an accumulation of heavy snow is the cause.
The board says the closure will last at least all week at the K-to-8 school on Sixth Street.
Director of education Tricia Weltz says there is visible damage and she’s grateful no one has been hurt.
Next steps will be determined once an engineering assessment is received. That will include whether parts of the building can reopen or if a transition to virtual learning will happen.
Early in March, the French Catholic K-to-12 Ecole Nouveau Regard was forced to close because of a structural problem with the roof, also caused by snow load. Classes have resumed in locations around town.
