It’s been a challenging year for fundraising for the United Way of North East Ontario. As the year winds down, it finds itself 30% short of its goal.
Executive director Cory Roslyn says so far, it has raised about $2.5-million for the six districts it serves.
“And while we’re coming to the end of the calendar year,” she remarks, “we do still have three months left before our deadline to meet that goal.”
That brings it to the end of March. Roslyn says it’s important to reach the goal so the United Way can continue to support all the organizations it does.
Of the six districts under its umbrella, Roslyn says Cochrane and Temiskaming are always incredibly supportive financially.
She realizes that people rotate donations among different charities year to year, and hopes they keep United Way in mind.
“We’re also asking people to get creative. Look at your workplace, get together with people. There are ways that people have found creative opportunities to raise money and we’re here to work with the community to support any of those ideas.”
Roslyn says she’s grateful thus far for the financial support, noting that United Way always gets more requests to support community programs than it’s able to fund.
