Regional support has helped the Smooth Rock Falls Food Bank recover from a burglary that was discovered on Monday.
“They left the shelves bare,” says Ardis Proulx, manager of the regional food bank system based out of Cochrane. She says whoever broke in cleaned out the fridge and freezers and took most of the non-perishable food.
They have one food day a month. It had just passed in September,” she notes. “We knew we had some, but we were already doing a delivery to them, so we said ‘okay, you’re going to be stocked.’”
By Wednesday, Smooth Rock Falls said its food bank was, indeed, fully stocked. Donations of cash and food quickly came in from across the region.
“Not just from Smooth Rock and Cochrane,” Proulx states, “but like Timmins, Kapuskasing, all over that reached out and they made sure that those shelves were filled.”
Proulx is still encouraging cash donations to buy perishables, like refrigerated and frozen foods.
