Cochrane history: The Canada Day it snowed

In Cochrane history: A week after Cochrane was among the hottest places in North America in 2001, Canada Day was snowed out.

Rain, snow and cold temperatures forced cancellation of July 1st activities around Lake Commando and on the Sixth Ave. hill.

The hill was supposed to be the site of the Cochrane Truck Drag.  But in practice runs, the transports were going sideways and couldn’t stop at the top.  By mid-afternoon, the event was cancelled.  Video of the conditions ended up on the CTV National News that night.

As a consolation, perhaps, 4×4 truck drags the day before went off without a hitch.

Thanks to the Cochrane Public Library for access to its archives.
