The Storyteller is adjusting to his new surroundings.
The statue of a lumberjack was moved last week from a spot beside Highway 11 at Porquis to the yard at the Iroquois Falls Pioneer Museum.
Historical Society president Danny McIntyre says Mike Camp of Kirkland Lake has already replaced the damaged fiberglass and repainted Storyteller’s jeans. The rest of the restoration work depends on the weather.
“Mike actually designed and built the big buffalo at Earlton and the pickerel at Marten River and a number of other statues like this,” McIntyre points out.
He says public response has all been positive, with more than 600 online reactions and comments giving Storyteller’s new home the thumbs up.
“And many people who were a little doubtful, once they saw him in position, they’re very enthusiastic, ‘Yeah, that’s where he belongs, he’s not as big as he looked’ and so on, so forth.”
McIntyre thinks Storyteller will be the most photographed thing in Iroquois Falls for a long time to come. The museum itself is open Monday to Friday, 10:00am to 3:00pm, including Canada Day.
