An end-of-school-year tradition that’s now in its third year happens this Thursday at Hillcrest Park in Cochrane.
Lisa Girard is a member of Cochrane Park Pals. She says after the first two years of “Last Day of School”, the question became “How do we not do it again?”.
Added this year is a dunk tank. All the games and food and other activities are part of the celebration at the park. Girard reminds us that the OPP will again have a safety-themed bike rodeo.
“That word didn’t get out as prominently as we wanted to have done last year, so kids showed up an they didn’t have their bikes,” Girard notes. “We want to make sure that the kids know please bring your bike to the park. Seventeenth Avenue is going to closed off for that event.”
Having fun and raising funds go together at the annual event. The wide variety of activities and services are primarily fun. But Girard says the purpose continues to be raising money to add permanent features to the park.
On the growing wish list is a covered pavilion with eight-to-ten picnic tables.
“People and their families can come and sit and have a picnic and watch the kids play. Overall, it’ll be just a wonderful gathering space for ages 0 to 99.”
