It’s a safe bet that Cochrane town councillors weren’t very pleased about a development 25 years ago. It’s our topic for this week’s local history feature.
The June 30th, 2000 edition of the Times-Post had a front page story about the province approving casinos – except in Cochrane.
It did, however, approve several for border towns along the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Councillor Angelo Anselmo reacted by pointing out that some of the locations were smaller than Cochrane, the government was not serving the province as a whole, and again, we were shut out.
On that same front page, news that delays from the municipal affairs ministry were holding up municipal tax bills for another month.
