“Here Comes the Bride” is the title of the first display mounted by the Greater Cochrane Historical Society.
Secretary Dawn Monroe says the initial idea was a study of war brides from the Second World War who settled in Canada. The group knows of at least seven who came to Cochrane. Then it expanded to wedding gowns dating back to the 1920s and other wedding items.
“It’s all to do with brides in Cochrane,” Monroe notes. “So if you were married in Cochrane, hopefully there’ll be something of interest to you.”
A space will be left in the display in the gallery at the public library, for you to post any you have, as long as they’re identified.
“Maybe their grandparents wedding picture, their parents’ wedding picture,” Monroe says. “They’ll be able to add to the display and will add to the collection.”
You can have the photos back, but they’ll probably be scanned first.
You can contact historical society president Debbie Nelson-Morin or executive members Dawn Monroe, Dale Elliott, Mary Kirkbride or Bill Rogers.
The display runs from June 17th to July 4th in the gallery at the Cochrane Public Library.
