Our little corner of the world is drawing a lot of attention from around the world for our bright future in mining.
On Tuesday, Timmins Mayor Michelle Boileau declared next week Mining Week, in conjunction with the annual Canadian Mining Expo at the McIntyre Community Building.
She met with Premier Doug Ford and members of his cabinet on Monday at Queen’s Park. The mayor says they’re as excited about the future of Northern Ontario as international participants were at the recent Prospectors and Developers convention.
“Everyone was so interested in the CME in June in Timmins,” she told a gathering at the official proclamation of Mining Week. “People were coming by our booth. They had heard about it from other colleagues and coming to pick up the little pamphlet that we had at the booth and so we knew that we were going to be seeing more of the world here in Timmins.”
Concurring with Boileau’s assessment of the healthy future is Glenn Dredhart, president of the Timmins based Canadian Trade Ex. His company has been putting on the mining expos every June since 1994.
Dredhart says what’s coming down the pipe is far greater than anything we’ve had in the past.
“It’s because of companies like Discovery Lakeshore, McEwen Mining, everyone that’s involved here within Northeastern Ontario helps make Timmins what it is today.”
Boileau’s and Dredhart’s remarks were made at Discovery’s Hollinger open pit lookout, where the mayor declared next week Mining Week.
The Mining Expo is next Wednesday and Thursday.
