Vanthof wants 4-lane highway across Ontario

Timiskaming-Cochrane New Democratic MPP John Vanthof says Ontario is one very weak link in bringing Canada together, as the country becomes galvanized in the face of threats from Donald Trump.

“Everywhere else in Canada” he said in the legislature, “we have a divided four-lane highway to cross this country so goods and people can travel freely across the country. That’s becoming even more important.”

Vanthof added that Northerners are regularly run off Ontario’s two-lane portion of the Trans-Canada Highway.

“So how about we make one of the projects to actually have a divided four-lane highway across this country, including this great province, because we’re the only province in the country that does not have a divided four-lane highway for goods and people.”

Vanthof notes that one project the premier has proposed is a deep sea port on Hudson Bay, but there’s no road to get stuff to it.
