The focus in Cochrane next week with at least two events is mental health.
Tuesday beginning at 10:45am, the Taykwa Tagamou First Nation is holding an awareness walk, starting at the Commando Pavilion.
Then on Wednesday between 10:00am and 3:00pm at the public library, TTFN and the Northeastern Public Health Unit are coordinating a Care for Caregivers day.
Health Unit nurse Jenessa Fortin says it’s intended for anyone who takes care of small children. They often put themselves last.
“Neglecting self care can have some really serious consequences,” Fortin notes, “so we are hoping to provide parents with some support, some education and let them know who out there in the community can support them.”
“We’re going to be exploring some topics like meal planning, common mental health concerns, what to expect if you’re facing those challenges, and most importantly how to take care of yourself while you’re taking care of children.”
Activities for those children are also planned, and snacks and lunch are provided.
There’s no charge, but you must register in advance.
