Objection raised to moving The Storyteller statue to Iroquois Falls Museum

An Iroquois Falls resident says she already has more than 100 signatures on a petition objecting to moving the lumberjack statue from Hwy. 11 in Porquis to the museum right in town.

Dakota Walcot says “The Storyteller”, the 20-foot-high statue is too big for the site. She says it will scare dementia patients at South Centennial Manor right across the street, cause traffic visibility issues in the lane behind the museum, and suffer vandalism.

She has a couple suggestions for an alternative location.

“Anson Park. I know it’s historic with the train there already, As well as the property, the Home Hardware, somewhere in that area where the water plant is,” Walcot points out.

She’ll address an upcoming council meeting.

“I’m strongly urging the council to pause the project for now until they can find an appropriate location and take everyone’s ideas into consideration.”
