Cochrane has Chimo the polar bear at the entrance to town. Moonbeam has the flying saucer. And Iroquois Falls has the lumberjack beside the highway in Porquis. But Guy-Paul Treefall is moving into town.
“We prefer the name The Storyteller, which is the name that was given to him by the artist,” says
Iroquois Falls Historical Society president Danny McIntyre.
Town council has approved remediation work and to move The Storyteller to the front lawn of the museum on Devonshire Ave. And the town is footing the bill.
“So we’re anticipating once the snow is gone and the arrangements can be made,” McIntyre says. “optimistically, late spring or early summer.”
The 20-foot tall statue is made of fiberglass over a metal armature.
McIntyre says when his group floated the idea, it attracted more than four-hundred positive reactions… and the support of the Chamber of Commerce, the library and most councillors.
McIntyre hopes people will drive the ten kilometres off Hiwy. 11 to see the statue and visit the museum. He says the historical society will act as goodwill ambassadors and tourism promoters.
“His name is The Storyteller and part of our purpose in life, our raison d’être, is to tell the story of Iroquois Falls.”
