Measles have arrived in our corner of Canada. The Northeastern Public Health Unit is reporting two cases of the highly contagious virus in the District of Timiskaming.
The health unit notes that both patients are in isolation and following appropriate measures not to spread the measles.
One of the cases is the result of exposure on an Ontario Northland bus and rest stops along the way last Saturday.
A measles resurgence has resulted in several hundred cases across Canada so far this year. That follows only 146 confirmed in all of 2024, mostly in people who were not immunized or under-immunized.
