Hydro one officials made an in-person public apology at a Hearst Town Council meeting this week for the company’s actions during the lengthy 17 hour power outage in January. Executive vice-president Teri French says instead of focusing on the communication and keeping the town informed, the utility was more concerned about just restoring the power.
“We took a real hard look at ourselves from a lessons learned perspective and that is why Ted and I are here today,” she said. “We are here to apologize first of all, we’re here to commit to make things different.”
Hearst Mayor Roger Sigouin says back in January there was no time given for electricity to be turned on so the town couldn’t launch an emergency plan fast enough.
He adds that he’s already seen some changes from the company.
“I’m happy to hear that we had a few outages a little while ago and we had communication right away with Hydro One and that’s big improvement to the community,” he said.
Hydro One made a donation of $2,500 to the town of Hearst to help with its emergency plan.
