George Pirie returns as the MPP for Timmins after election win

George Pirie is heading back to Queen’s Park as the MPP for the Timmins Riding. It’s his second straight decisive win, taking Thursday’s election by nearly 7,000 votes. Pirie, who is born and raised in Timmins and grew up on the Dome-Ex housing site, says it’s a great feeling to once again represent his community.

Pirie adds that it was probably one of the most important provincial elections called to ensure that we don’t lose what we have which is what Doug Ford promised. He noted that it was very humbling to have the success on election night.

Pire agrees that there is still lots of work to help the mining industry including those companies that are trying to re-open once closed mines.

Pirie says that they’ve got more work to do in relations to putting all of the mining sector into one industry instead of still be separated.

Meantime we will learn more this week when a recount will take place for the riding of Mushkegowuk-James Bay. New Democrat Incumbent Guy Bourgouin won by just four votes over Conservative Dave Plourde. In a press release on Friday, Elections Ontario officials stated that the riding returning officer must apply for a recount for any result that’s less than 25 votes. The officials added it will wait for the official tabulation to be completed before determining the next steps.
