OPP needing Auxiliary Officers across our region

Three Ontario Provincial Police detachments in our region are looking for auxiliary officers.

Constable Michelle Simard of the South Porcupine OPP says the volunteers go on the road and also attend community events. She adds it’s quite a process that starts with checking out the police website.

“You go through some testing that is similar to a regular members so that’s like a medical, psychological, a background check, an interview stage, so it’s a pretty rigorous process to get in,” she said.

Simard says being an auxiliary officer is a great way to learn more about what it takes to be an officer and perhaps a career path.

“The other thing too that happens to is that we get older individuals who always wanted to be a police officer, but it just didn’t’ happen for them and this is their way to give back to the community,” she added.
