The same suspect in both cases brought Cochrane OPP to what they call “a hotel on Railway St.” twice on the same night.
They say that at about 9:00pm last Saturday, it was about an alleged assault and forcible confinement of a 14-year-old who did not know the accused.
The 49-year-old man from Chestermere, Alberta was charged with forcible confinement and assault with a weapon. He given an upcoming court date and released.
Then about six hours later, police and paramedics were called due to an intimate partner violence incident at the same hotel. Investigation indicated that the same man assaulted and tried to smother his partner. Four related charges were laid:
-Assault causing bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle
-Assault – spousal
-Forcible confinement
-Criminal harassment – threatening conduct
The suspect was released at a bail hearing, again with a court date set in Cochrane.
