NewsCOCHRANE STANDS TO LOSE SHARE ON: Tim Rout, staff Tuesday, Feb. 16th, 2016Mayor Politis of Cochrane, together with Mayor Spacek of Kapuskasing and other small town officials, are fighting a move by Timmins Counsel to have Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board funding reallocated. The move would see monies distributed on the basis of population, rather than assessed need. Historically, those communities with the greatest need would receive the greatest number of dollars. Now, if Timmins Mayor Steve Black has his way, that model would see Timmins getting the lion’s share to the tune of another $766,000 per year. These dollars would come off the budgets of towns like Cochrane.
