In Cochrane history this week: Big relief just in time for Christmas for a local family during the Second World War.
The Northland Post issue of December 7th, 1944 carried a report about Mr. and Mrs. George Kydd getting a card from their son, Flight Sgt. Gordon Kydd.
It came from a German prisoner of war camp and was dated August 31st, shortly after he was reported missing, and was the first they heard from him..
Flight Sgt. Kydd told his parents that things could have been worse, and he was safe and well.

He signed it off “Keep the old flag flying. Love, Gordon.”
