Tory Delaurier is making the jump to provincial politics, running for the PCs in Timiskaming-Cochrane in the next provincial election.
Delaurier is in his first term as mayor of Iroquois Falls, after 17 years as a councillor. The 49-year-old has been general manager of The Enterprise weekly newspaper for 24 years.
“I was listening to the residents and the business community and they want a strong voice at Timiskaming-Cochrane in Queen’s Park,” he says. “So I want to be that strong voice and just be the next MPP and work hard for the residents of Timiskaming-Cochrane.”
That includes the southern end of the riding.
“We’re planning to do another run down there,” he states. “I’m meeting with different mayors and councillors and we’re looking at what their issues are and what they want their voice to be and look like at Queen’s Park.”
The riding is currently held by New Democrat John Vanthof, who is running for re-election. Geographically, it’s huge. It runs from Cochrane along Highway 11 through Timiskaming, and to the west end of Lake Nipissing.
