Ski season arrives in time for the holidays

Ski season begins this weekend on Mount Jamieson at Kamiskotia in Timmins.

General manager Eric Philipow says it will be open from 10:00am until 4:30pm Saturday and Sunday, then for the full Christmas break beginning the following weekend.

Philipow says it’s been easier to make snow this year to add to the natural stuff.

“For opening weekend, it’ll be about half and half,” he reports, “so we’ll have some snow made on four separate runs on the one Skyway side, and there’ll be about three or four other runs open on just natural snow. “

The rest of the 20 runs are expected to open for the holiday season, along with the tube park.

This is an average time for opening the hill.  Philipow says the target is always the weekend before the start of the holidays.

“If it keeps up as it’s going, it’s looking like it’s going to be a pretty fantastic snow year,” Philipow predicts.  “As long as everything holds steady, we should make it to about Easter weekend, roughly.”
