Northern Health Travel Grant enhanced

Ontario Health Minister Sylvia Jones is touting enhancements to the Northern Health Travel Grant.

Among the changes effective December 1st is an increase in the accommodation allowance.

“Currently it’s $100 per night,” the minister notes. It’s going up to $175 as well as increasing the total allowance from $550 to $1,150.”

Also gone is the requirement to have to travel over 100 km before you qualify for the grant.

“We’ve now made that change,” says Jones, “and as long as you are travelling over 100 km for your medical services, you will start reimbursement at Kilometre 1.”

Jones also mentions other enhancements and expansion of access to services the past several years. But she concedes that the Northern Health Travel Grant will always be needed.
