KidSport Iroquois Falls marks two decades

KidSport Iroquois Falls is celebrating 20 years of helping ensure that a lack of money doesn’t prevent kids from participating in sports.

Past president Rolly Coté says the actual anniversary is December 4th.

“Of course, nowadays, the job market is not what it used to be,” he notes. “We help kids who have some financial barriers and it’s based on a family income threshold that we have, depending on the number of kids in the family.”

The maximum grant is $400.00 a year per child.  Applications for the following calendar year are accepted until December 15th.

“Since we started in 2004, we’ve helped 325 kids to the tune of $80,000,” says Coté. “We’re getting really good assistance from a lot of our corporate sponsors as well, to help us keep the program going.”

To celebrate the big anniversary, KidSport is offering family skating and swimming on Friday, December 6th and bowling the following afternoon.

On the evening of December 6th is a wine-and-cheese to honour corporate sponsors and past and present board members. Coté says the executive director of KidSport Ontario will be the guest speaker.
