Thirty years ago today, as we look at Cochrane history, the Rail Town was faced with the prospect of a work stoppage on the rails. The story was on the front page of the Cochrane Times on Saturday November 26th, 1994
If a strike by 33 railway shop workers didn’t happen the next day, Ontario Northland said it would lock them out. The company said it was willing to talk all weekend.
Among services threatened were the Northlander passenger train.
On that same front page was a photo of two workers beginning dismantling of the old water tower, which had served the town for more than 80 years.
We get access to material for our history feature from the archives at the Cochrane Public Library.
