Cochrane history: New chair for millennium winter carnival committee

In Cochrane history this week: An update on last week’s story about Peter Konopelky resigning as chair of the committee planning the millennium edition of the Cochrane Winter Carnival.

Committee member Sheila Palangio stepped in to the top spot. The carnival was set for the second week of February, 2000.

That was reported in the Cochrane Times of November 12th, 1999.

Also on the front page was a report about a group called Seeking Equal Access Telephone Services going right to the CRTC, with its demands for phone lines in rural areas.

However, an unofficial survey of people in Clute, Frederickhouse, Glackmeyer and Silver Queen who didn’t have phone lines, showed a majority didn’t want them.

The Cochrane Public Library provides its archives for our weekly history feature.
