Flashback Friday: A new way of delving into the history of Cochrane

The acting assistant to the CEO of the Cochrane Public Library says there’s an enormous interest in local history. So Heather Brouwer says building off the success of the weekly Monday feature on Moose FM and My Cochrane Now Dot Com, the library will now offer “Flashback Friday”.

It will allow patrons to browse select newspapers from the library’s archives, from the particular week in history.

“This week on Friday, it’s out first one,” Brouwer outlines, “so we’ve got newspapers from Cochrane Times-Post from 2004 and 1994; and then the Northland Post from ’74, ’64, ’54 and ’44.”

That’s between 1:00pm and 2:00pm, upstairs at the library

“We’ll have the newspapers upstairs so people can just come in at the front desk and we’ll kind of show them how to use the newspapers without harming them because of course, these are invaluable to not just the library, but the community,” Brouwer explains.

The library archives go back to 1910 issues of the Northland Post. As always, if there’s something that interests you from days past in Cochrane, library staff can search it out for you in the archives.
