First day of standard time features power interruption in wide area of Cochrane

Standard time returns this coming weekend, and a lot of people in Cochrane will appreciate the extra hour of sleep more than most years.

A large part of the town will be without electricity between 8:00am and 11:00am Sunday.  Northern Ontario Wires says it’s necessary to carry out maintenance to the distribution system.

AFFECTED AREAS

  • Northeast: All of 8th, 10th and 11th Streets including Cadence Residence. All of 10th Avenue, 11th Avenue/Chalmers Avenue going north to Concession 2&3. East side of 10th Avenue including all streets east up to and including Génier Road. Lady Minto Hospital, Lee Golf Club, Beach House, New Hope Community Church, Cochrane Gospel Chapel, Knox Christian Reformed Church, Polar Bear Market & Cookhouse, Formula 21, Pro’s Mini Mart, Tim Horton Events Centre, Rockshield, Greenfirst and Cochrane Power Corporation.
  • Southwest Areas affected: Fifth St from James Bay (rail track) to Western Avenue, south including Nipissing Street. Second Street, including the Mobile Park. Hwy 11 West from Western Avenue to Hwy 11 South. Ontario Northland (all areas), OPP, MTO, Public Works (including 2nd St pumping station), Time to Shine, Ontario Provincial Info Centre, MNR Fire & Storage. Canadian Tire, Villeneuve Construction, Custom Concrete, Bussiere, CochraneTel, Westway, Tim Hortons, 51 Hwy 11 West Mini Complex, Subway, Crevier, Independent, Paps Power Shop, Cochrane Truck & Tractor.
