Cochrane history: Big objection to annexation

In local history from 30 years ago, a rough ride for the concept of annexation of eleven unorganized territories with the Town of Cochrane and the Township of Glackmeyer.

The Cochrane Times reported on November 5th, 1994 that a crowded meeting at the Scout Hall was unanimous against the idea.

The feeling was that there would be no advantages in becoming part of the large municipality; and that added taxes would not match the services residents were getting from their local roads boards and the existing system of governing.

Meeting organizer Tony DeJoseph was named chair of the united front against amalgamation. It adopted a resolution asking the province to stop the annexation pursuit.
