Fill-a-bus event for Cochrane Food Bank goes Saturday at Independent Grocer

The manager of the Cochrane Food Bank says events like this coming Saturday’s “Fill a Bus” are crucial to her operation. Ardis Proulx says they help serve the community during the holiday season and beyond.

She explains that the food bank experiences an annual “January lull”, when budgets are tight.

“We then tend to have less donations and we have a little bit of a hiccup,” she explains. “So we always try to get through that month as well as possible, and all of these events before that, they definitely help us do that.”

Moose FM and Leuschen Transportation will have a bus at the Independent Grocer in Cochrane on Saturday from 9:00am until 2:00pm. Proulx says donations of toys, mitts and winter hats will also be gladly accepted.

“Kids are very good at losing their hats and their mitts,” Proulx observes, as she puts special emphasis on children aged 10 and up.

“We do have a lot of kids that are clients that are over ten years old. So think if things like board games, like DVDs; anything that doesn’t require batteries; anything that doesn’t require added items to be bought afterwards.”

Proulx says the food bank helped 250 families last Christmas, and she expects more this year.
